The merger of OSM Maritime Group and Thome Group will finally go ahead after receiving approval from competition authorities.
The two ship management companies will now operate as one, called OSM Thome, under CEO Finn Amund Norbye and with headquarters in Arendal, Norway.
Norbye described the approval as a big day for the company and said it was building a “company for the future”, highlighting the potential in digitalisation, cyber security and green shipping.
Norbye continued saying: “Our business is based on Norwegian maritime skills and with skilful employees in leading shipping locations across the world, we will strengthen our position as an innovative and world-leading supplier of ship management services.
“We have built a company for the future, with safe, efficient and sustainable management of ships as our DNA.”
Though the merger was initially announced in January, it has only just been approved by all relevant authorities meaning, that the two companies’ 31,000 employees can officially now come together.

After combining the resource and customer bases of the two companies, OSM Thome will now be responsible for 29,000 seafarers, 2,000 onshore employees and 1,000 ships, dealing with crewing for 550 of the ships and ship management for the remaining 450.
Norbye added: “We are respectful of and appreciate the trust shown to us by our customers, which we will do our utmost to maintain through our around-the-clock operations on the seven seas.
“We know our customers’ needs and our skilled and dedicated colleagues, both on land and at sea, are crucial for us to be able to provide the best solutions.”
Norbye’s focus on areas such as digitalisation comes after previous moves from both companies in innovative shipping technology including Thome Group’s use of Marlink’s hybrid network connectivity services on at least 100 ships.
