Russia's Rosneft has entered an agreement with South Korea-based Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) to collaboratively design and build new sets of Aframax-class vessels.
HSHI will provide technical support to develop the Aframax class vessels at the Zvezda shipyard in Bolshoy Kamen, Russia, under the new deal.
The Zvezda shipbuilding complex is being created at the site of the Far Eastern Zvezda plant by a consortium that includes Rosneftegaz, Rosneft and Gazprombank amongst its members.
The project will see the construction of a heavy fitting dock, dry dock and full-cycle production facilities, as well as workshops for the construction of offshore marine equipment.
Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin said: “Technological partnership with the world's largest shipbuilding company will allow us to acquire the necessary competencies in the area of engineering support and management of ship construction projects.
“This cooperation will ensure DTSS and Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex access to unique technologies for the production of advanced marine equipment, such as modern environmentally friendly Aframax-type tankers that run on NGV fuel, and will open prospects for the localisation of production and development of the shipbuilding cluster in the Far East of Russia.”
