APM Terminals Poti has launched a new feeder service to facilitate a direct connection between Poti Port, Georgia, and Istanbul, Turkey.

The new service will enable APM Terminals to extend its offering between the two countries.

Israeli cargo shipping company ZIM made the maiden call for the new Poti Turkiye Feeder (PTF) service.

Every 12 to 14 days, the 925 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) Contship Joy will run between Turkish ports and Poti Port.

APM Terminals Poti, which is a global gateway for trade in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, serves as a hub for trade between Europe and Central Asia.

The port has on-dock rail connections and direct connections to the region’s road and rail networks as well as being linked to all major cities in Georgia, the greater Caucasus region and Central Asia.

The new service is said to extend the ports’ global connectivity even further through the worldwide network of ZIM.

APM Terminals Poti chief commercial officer Iain Rawlinson said: “APM Terminals Poti is delighted to welcome ZIM’s new service. With the increased need for connections between Georgia and Central Asia and the rest of the world, and the growth in this market, we are confident that ZIM will have great success with their new Turkiye-Poti Feeder service.”

Last month, APM Terminals and Bolloré Ports opened a new terminal in Abidjan, a city on the southern Atlantic coast of Côte d’Ivoire in West Africa.

The container terminal commenced operations following a series of successful test calls in mid-October.
