Finnish company Konecranes has secured an order from Spinelli Group for the delivery of a new Generation 6 crane for use at the latter’s terminal in Genoa, north-western Italy.
The Konecranes Gottwald ESP.9 Mobile Harbour Crane, which is a new Generation 6 crane, is expected to be delivered in December.
With a focus on container handling, Spinelli is the owner and operator of Spinelli Genoa Port Terminal (GPT) in Genoa.
It is claimed to be the busiest terminal in Italy, with an annual throughput of more than 500,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).
The new crane will help add extra capacity as container volumes continue to increase at the terminal.
Featuring advanced technology to improve both operational performance and energy efficiency, the new crane has a working radius of 61m and a capacity of 125t, allowing it to cater to ships up to the super-post-Panamax class.

By GlobalDataThe crane includes a Konecranes hybrid drive with a diesel engine that is in line with EU Stage V emission standards and features ultracapacitors to deliver additional power for heavy lifts.
The ultracapacitors can be refilled through the collection of braking and lowering energy. It also comes with built-in readiness for an external power supply, which would cut down operational costs, as well as noise and exhaust emissions.
Furthermore, the system is said to optimise adaptability for changing port conditions and complies with Italy’s National Energy and Climate Plan (ENCP).
Konecranes port solutions regional sales manager Gino Gherri said: “This order brings the number of Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Cranes in the GPT fleet to 6.
“We have had nearly a decade of cooperation with Spinelli, and we’re delighted that they’ve chosen us again for their new container handling crane. This order demonstrates that Spinelli believes in the potential of the Generation 6 crane.”
