Dutch maritime contracting company Van Oord has taken delivery of a dual-fuel trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) from Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M).
The dredger, dubbed Vox Ariane, can operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
With a hopper capacity of 10,500m³, the Dutch-flagged vessel was constructed in Singapore.
Keppel O&M stated that Vox Ariane is the sixth dredger built by the company and the first to be delivered to Van Oord.
At present, the company is involved in the construction of two more identical dredgers, named Vox Apolonia and Vox Alexia, for Van Oord.
Keppel O&M’s newbuilds managing director Tan Leong Peng said: “We are pleased to deliver the first dual-fuel dredger built in Singapore to Van Oord. This is the sixth dredger delivered by Keppel O&M, extending our track record in the dredging industry.”

By GlobalDataVox Ariane is built in line with the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Tier III regulations and comes with various features to cut down fuel consumption as well as carbon emissions.
The vessel, which has sustainable systems, received the Green Passport and Clean Ship Notation by Bureau Veritas.
It has a high degree of automation for its marine and dredging systems, along with an on-board data acquisition and integrated control system to improve efficiency and savings in operational costs.
Additionally, the dredger, which can accommodate 22 people, has a total installed power of 14,500kW and features one suction pipe with a submerged e-driven dredge pump, two shore discharge dredge pumps, and five bottom doors.
Van Oord ship management department director Jaap de Jong said: “This dredger, which will boost the mid-class section of our fleet of TSHDs, exemplifies our commitment to make our fleet more economical and energy-efficient.”
In February, Keppel O&M’s wholly-owned subsidiary Keppel Shipyard won contracts with a total value of around $250m.
