SEA-KIT has selected Cambridge Pixel, a provider of radar display, tracking, and recording sub-systems, for the supply of SPx Server technology and Maritime Display Framework (MDF) software to improve its uncrewed surface vessel (USV) operations.
Cambridge Pixel’s technology was selected due to its bandwidth management tools, filtering, and data processing tools.
Furthermore, the software can be incorporated with SEA-KIT’s GSAVI package and situational awareness software with ease.
Cambridge Pixel’s software will enable SEA-KIT’s vessels to sail efficiently even in low bandwidth situations.
SEA-KIT technology director Peter Walker said: “Cambridge Pixel’s radar interface technology is known in the industry as being a robust and trusted system with customisable and powerful features. We selected their products because we are committed to ensuring that SEA-KIT’s vessels are at the cutting-edge of the USV market’s technology requirements. Their technical support team has been highly responsive to our needs and it has been great working with them on this latest vessel.”
SEA-KIT has also deployed the MDF software at its Remote-Control Centre for displaying the radar picture on screen as seen on board a regular vessel.

By GlobalDataThe software has the ability to receive radar video from several maritime radar sensors such as Furuno, Hensoldt, JRC, Simrad, Sperry, and more.
Cambridge Pixel CEO David Johnson said: “We are thrilled to be supplying our SPx Server technology and MDF software to enhance the situational awareness of SEA-KIT’s latest X class uncrewed surface vessels. Our radar expertise and software modules for radar acquisition, processing, distribution, target tracking, and display make us a good technology partner for innovative USV developers like SEA-KIT.”
Currently, the first of the 12m SEA-KIT X class USV, which has been built for Fugro, is being prepared for project work in Australia.
The vessel will use Cambridge Pixel’s SPx Server technology and feature remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) launch-and-recovery systems and station-keeping competencies. It will be used to carry out fully uncrewed ROV pipeline inspections in waters with depth up to 400m on Australia’s North West Shelf.
Unlike traditional, crewed vessels, SEA-KIT USVs use up to 95% less fuel.
