The China Navigation Company’s dry bulk division Swire Bulk has received a new log-fitted bulk carrier MV Singan.

In February, the naming ceremony of the vessel was held in Hakodate, Japan, in the Hakodate Dock’s shipyard. In April, the ship started its first maiden voyage for Busan.

In a laden condition, the vessel is expected to travel at speeds and consumption at 12.5k.

Swire Bulk general manager Rob Aarvold said that the additions of Rudder Bulb, Wake fin and Pre-swirl are expected to boost vessel hull efficiency.

MV Singan offers a high level of structural stability, which is required for log carriage. It also features the ‘latest solid-state radar equipment’ integrated with ECDIS.

The ship is a part of a larger order to deliver ten bulk vessels, which will be constructed in Japan. The other vessels are expected to be delivered by the end of next year.

Last year, China Navigation Company (CNCo) completed the acquisition of Hamburg Süd’s bulk shipping business, after receiving regulatory approval.

As part of the deal, CNCo acquired Rudolf A Oetker (RAO) and the bulk activities in Furness Withy (London and Melbourne) and Aliança Navegação e Logística.
