Global technology provider Valmet has secured a contract from Finnish company Telesilta to upgrade the control and machinery monitoring system on-board the Aranda marine research vessel.
The upgrade will be carried out in order to meet existing requirements as part of a wider renovation project being conducted on the Aranda vessel.
Valmet is set to provide its DNA control and machinery monitoring system under the arrangement, as well as training and commissioning services.
The Valmet DNA solution will be used to control and monitor Aranda’s machinery and monitor alarm systems.
Valmet Automation sales manager Heikki Tanner said: “Upgrading the control and machinery monitoring system increases the reliability of this advanced vessel.
“One of Valmet DNA system advantages is its easy upgradability to the latest technology.”

The ice-reinforced research vessel is 59.2m-long, 13.8m-wide and features a gross tonnage capacity of 1,734t.

The renovation will see the extension of Aranda’s length by 7m to a total 66m.
Research and laboratory facilities will also be built as part of the upgrade.
In addition, Telesilta and Valmet are also involved in a comprehensive project related to Molslinjen’s RoPax vessel, which is currently under construction by Rauma Marine Constructions at the Rauma shipyard.
