Norway-based shipping company Kleven is set to construct a purpose-designed offshore mining vessel for De Beers Marine Namibia.
A memorandum of agreement (MoA) has been signed between the two companies in support of the deal.
The vessel was designed by Marin Teknikk and will feature a length of 176m.
It will be constructed at Kleven’s yard in Ulsteinvik and is expected to be used for De Beers Marine Namibia’s seabed mining operations.
De Beers Marine Namibia is an offshore diamond mining organisation based in Namibia.
Finnish cruise operator Viking Line has awarded a contract to Wärtsilä to provide engines, navigation systems and a variety of other equipment for a new ferry, which is currently under construction at Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry’s yard in China.

By GlobalDataWärtsilä has agreed to supply six 31DF dual-fuel engines under the deal, which use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as primary fuel.
The environmentally friendly dual-fuel engines consume less fuel and emit fewer exhaust fumes than other systems.
They are also anticipated to offer savings on operating costs.
Viking Line’s new ferry is slated to begin operations across the Baltic Sea between Turku, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden, from early 2021.
In addition, Wärtsilä will provide an LNGPac fuel storage and supply unit, a Compact Silencer System (CSS) and high-quality bow thrusters as part of the arrangement.
The deal also covers the delivery of a ballast water management system (BWMS), Nacos Platinum integrated navigation solution and the company’s SmartPredict system, which displays the vessel’s projected future position and heading.
