Royal Caribbean International has officially marked the start of construction on its third Quantum-class cruise ship with the steel cutting ceremony held at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The new Ovation of the Seas ship will have 18 decks, 2,090 staterooms and the capacity to accommodate 4,180 guests at double occupancy.

Additional features include dancing Roboscreens in the Two70 entertainment venue, robotic bartenders in the Bionic Bar, RipCord by iFLY facility for skydiving, the North Star which transports guests 300ft above the ocean, and transformative venues such as the Sea-Plex indoor sports and entertainment complex.
The new cruise ship costing $926m is scheduled for delivery mid 2016 and will be similar to the first two Quantum-class ships.
Royal Caribbean’s first Quantum-class cruise vessel, Quantum of the Seas, is currently under construction at Meyer Werft’s Papenburg shipyard in Germany and will be delivered in November of this year. The second cruise vessel, Anthem of the Seas, is scheduled for delivery in early 2015.
The ships will have a length of 348m, width of 136m, depth of 8.5m and gross tonnage capacity of 167,800t.
