Knarr-FPSO

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has awarded an acknowledgement of compliance (AoC) to Teekay‘s Petrojarl Knarr FPSO, which has been installed with four Norsafe GES50 MKIII free-fall lifeboats.

The AoC conveys the authority’s confidence that petroleum activity can be performed by the facility within the regulatory framework.

The PSA statement read: "The decision is based on the information provided in the AoC application concerning the technical condition of the facility and the applicant’s organisation and management system, as well as the authorities’ verifications and other case processing."

The vessel has now reached the BG Norge-operated Knarr field in the North Sea, around 50km north-east of Snorre. It was constructed by Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries and completed final preparations at the Aibel’s Haugesund yard.

Norsafe’s GES50 MKIII free-fall lifeboat received declaration of conformity (DoC) from ABS in July, along with other models such as GES45 and GES52.

The DoC was approved after the verification of vessel’s DNV-OS-E406 standard, a new standard for free-fall lifeboats on board fixed platforms / semis and FPSOs on the Norwegian continental shelf.
