Royal Caribbean ship Splendour of the Seas caught fire in the Mediterranean on Thursday.

The fire broke out in one of the ship’s two engine rooms when the ship, carrying 20 people aboard 19 crew members and one passenger, was sailing to Argostoli, Greece.

However, the fire was contained and extinguished with fire suppression equipment.

“The ship’s fire suppression system was activated, which contained and extinguished the fire. However, in an abundance of caution, it was deemed necessary to evacuate some guests from their stateroom.”

The members aboard have been treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire has not damaged any of the onboard systems, which are functioning normally.

The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained and was extinguished within two hours.
