Wartsila has been awarded a contract to provide propulsion solutions to a new polar logistics vessel being built for Terre Australes et Antarctiques Françaises (TAAF) and the French Polar Institute (IPEV).

Additionally, Wartsila will provide its NOx Reducer (NOR) systems to the new vessel that will facilitate compliance with the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Tier III emission regulations.

Deliveries under the order are expected to take place in mid-2016.

The new vessel will be built by Chantiers Piriou, Concarneau based on a concept design recommended by France’s Marine Assistance.

Wartsila Marine Solutions vice-president Aaron Bresnahan said: “For this type of vessel that will be operating in the the most challenging ice and weather conditions, reliability and efficient performance are essential.
