The International Association of Classifications Societies (IACS) has introduced a cyber panel to address cyber system integrity at the 72nd meeting of IACS Council.
The move is part of the IACS Chairman Christopher J. Wiernicki’s strategy to improve global safety and security by focusing on three key areas that include structural, machinery and cyber system integrity.
Additionally, two Joint Working Groups (JWGs) on cyber systems and European Union’s Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) programme were established.
The first working group will improve the ongoing cooperation with BIMCO by partnering with the industry stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the second group will address methodologies for compliance with the EU’s MRV regulation for carbon emissions in EU waters.
The council has recommended Rapid Technical Assistance to enable the respective governments to have a clear baseline as regarding the service provided by IACS members, especially in providing a capability to ships needing a place of refuge.
