Finland-based Wärtsilä has secured an order to provide engines for two new 8,000m³ trailing suction hopper dredgers being built for India’s multi-port operator Adani group.

Designed by the Netherlands’ Royal IHC (IHC), the vessels are the first of a new IHC Beagle series.

Under the deal, Wärtsilä will provide two eight-cylinder Wärtsilä 32 main engines for the first vessel and two seven-cylinder Wärtsilä 32 main engines for the second, together with four Wärtsilä controllable pitch propella systems (CPPs) with shafts.

Additionally, Wärtsilä will provide a super trident sewage treatment plant with vacuum generation for both the vessels, with deliveries expected to begin in September this year.

The first of the dredgers is scheduled for delivery to the Adani group by the end of next year.

Wärtsilä provides propulsion solutions for dredgers and has also supplied equipment to IHC.

Earlier, Wärtsilä has provided equipments for dredgers and other port vessels owned by Adani.

The company has also provided engines, propulsion equipment, exhaust scrubber systems, and various electrical and automation solutions to Royal Caribbean International’s cruise ship Harmony of the Seas.

Delivered in May this year, the ship is powered by four 12-cylinder Wärtsilä 46F engines and two 16-cylinder Wärtsilä 46F engines.

The Harmony of the Seas has four Wärtsilä CT3500 transverse thrusters for effective manoeuvring.
