Luxembourg-based satellite communication service provider Intelsat has entered into a deal to provide high-throughput broadband connectivity under its Epic platform to global business critical communication solutions provider Marlink.
As part of the deal, Intelsat’s Horizons 3e satellite will be used to offer Wi-Fi connectivity for Marlink’s maritime customers travelling across global shipping routes.

Set to be launched by 2018, Horizons 3e is jointly owned by Intelsat and SKY Perfect JSAT, and a part of the former’s Epic platform.
Once launched, the satellite will join other Intelsat satellites, including Intelsat 29e, Intelsat 33e and Intelsat 35e.
In addition, Marlink will also leverage IntelsatOne uplink and virtual network operator services, such as those from Intelsat’s teleport in Napa, California, US.
Marlink maritime president Tore Morten Olsen said: “Our customers in the Pacific Ocean are increasingly demanding more connectivity, and by adding additional Intelsat Epic coverage to our network we can meet ship owner connectivity demands.

In June, Marlink selected Intelsat's Epic broadband connectivity for use on Mediterranean Shipping Company's (MSC) entire fleet of 12 cruise ships.
MSC Cruises has also deployed the Epic high throughput connectivity aboard its MSC Divina cruise ship.
