Cuxport, a multimodal deep-water terminal in Cuxhaven, Germany, has upgraded its operations with the deployment of the Navis mixed cargo terminal operating system (TOS) from Kaleris.

The new system replaces an outdated legacy system, streamlining the management of diverse cargo types and enhancing overall terminal efficiency at the automobile-dominated port.

Located at the mouth of the Elbe River, Cuxport serves as a strategic hub for multimodal transport, connecting to various logistics facilities.

Previously, Cuxport’s operations were managed through multiple systems, which segmented the handling of different cargo types.

The Navis TOS consolidates these workflows into a single, scalable solution, accommodating complex handling and billing processes. This centralisation aims to improve the management of breakbulk and container cargo.

Kaleris CEO Kirk Knauff said: “Partnering with Cuxport to support their digital strategy and growth initiatives is very important to us. We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with their team and continue driving key innovations within our solutions.

“Their goal of enhanced connectivity with inland logistics providers is a core tenant of our mission to solve complex supply chain transportation challenges.”

The Navis TOS system’s digital capabilities reduce manual data processing and enhance visibility into operations.

This improved insight has led to more efficient handling of roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) and Lift-on/Lift-off (LoLo) cargo, which are key focus areas for the terminal, Cuxport stated.

Cuxport TOS project manager Maike Lietmann said: “Navis Mixed Cargo TOS effectively handles both breakbulk and container processes. By enhancing productivity and operational efficiency in daily operations, we’ve increased the effectiveness of administration and communication by digitising processes.”

Cuxport operates a multi-functional terminal at the deep-water port of Cuxhaven, offering port handling facilities and convenient connections to inland destinations.

The terminal is a joint venture between Rhenus Group and HHLA Container Terminals. Rhenus holds a 74.9% stake in Cuxport, while HHLA owns the remaining 25.1%.
