Stena RoRo has taken delivery of the 12th E-Flexer vessel, the Guillaume de Normandie, from the CMI Jinling shipyard in Weihai, China.
The vessel is part of a series of 15 vessels being delivered by shipyard and is on a long-term charter to Brittany Ferries for ten years.
This delivery marks the fifth and final E-Flexer vessel ordered by Brittany Ferries.
The Guillaume de Normandie will commence service on the Portsmouth – Caen route in April next year, replacing the Normandie, which has been in operation since 1992.
The vessel features multi-fuel engines and a 12MWh battery-hybrid package. This allows the ship to operate on battery power alone while entering and leaving ports, and even during docking manoeuvres, without relying on diesel engines.
It is equipped with an 8MW shore connection for rapid battery charging, enabling a fossil-free stay in port.

By GlobalDataThe 194.7m-long vessel has a draught of 6.5m, a beam of 27.8m, and a capacity for 1,300 passengers and 2,410 lane metres of cargo, including 176 lane metres for personal cars.
It boasts 222 passenger cabins across four decks and can achieve a speed of 23 knots, with 17.5 knots achievable on battery power alone. The ship’s interior is crafted by Figura Arkitekter.
The scalable power take-off/power take-in (PTI/PTO) system with battery power function supports propulsion at sea or in-port manoeuvres, with the potential for future full battery operation or a mix of fuel types.
Stena RoRo managing director Per Westling said: “Within the framework of the E-Flexer concept, there has been continuous technical development and we can offer our customers flexible and future-proof propulsion systems that by a wide margin meet both today’s and future environmental requirements.
“The large battery hybrid system we installed on the Guillaume de Normandie means that the ship can operate optimally, in step with regulatory developments, or in accordance with the operator’s own policies.”
The first four E-Flexer ships, including the Galicia and the Saint-Malo, were delivered between late 2020 and October 2024.
Stena RoRo’s partnership with the CMI Jinling shipyard has resulted in 12 E-Flexer vessels delivered to date, with a total of 15 confirmed orders and two additional orders for New Max RoRo vessels.
