Subsea Global Solutions has gained approval from Singaporean authorities to perform eco-friendly hull cleaning using an advanced cleaning remotely operated vehicle (C-ROV) technology.

The authorisation allows for underwater cleaning while vessels are stationary, minimising downtime and supporting sustainable marine operations.

The cleaning process utilises a C-ROV with an integrated filtration system that captures biofouling debris, aligning with Singapore’s strict environmental standards. This technology ensures pollutants are not discharged into the harbour, protecting local marine life.

The C-ROV is is diver-less solution that enhances safety and efficiency in hull cleaning.

Subsea Global environmental services director Karl Lander stated: “There is a large, and growing, demand for hull cleaning in Singapore.

“Approval of the C-ROV for operation there is a significant step forward for Subsea Global Solutions in advancing our capabilities to meet the demand for environmentally friendly solutions around the globe.”

The C-ROV system can be operated by ROV pilots or diver technicians. Its hybrid capability allows for extended operational windows and its portable design facilitates transportation and deployment in remote areas.

Subsea Global Solutions’ Singapore office has been using the portable C-ROV system since 2022.

Subsea Global Solutions chief operations officer Captain Satnam Kumar stated: “Singapore’s approval marks a major milestone for Subsea Global Solutions, allowing us to expand our services in one of the busiest ports in the world.

“Our C-ROV technology not only meets regulatory standards but also reinforces our ongoing commitment to innovative, environmentally sustainable solutions for our clients.”

The technology is available in ports worldwide.

In May 2024, Singapore’s transport authorities and Port of Singapore operator PSA addressed reports of congestion, and announced plans to build three new container ship berths at Tuas Port.
